GTA 6 Pre-Order Guide: Everything You Get, Where to Buy, and What to Avoid

GTA 6 pre-orders went live on June 25, 2026, and the demand was exactly what you’d expect for the biggest game launch in history. The boxed version sold out on Amazon US in roughly an hour, PS5 pre-orders are reportedly outselling Xbox by around six to one, and Take-Two is sitting on billions in early sales before a single person has played a minute of it.

If you haven’t locked yours in yet, here’s the complete picture: prices, the free Vintage Vice City Pack, the digital versus physical decision, and the scams already circling this launch.

The basics

  • Release date: Thursday, November 19, 2026
  • Platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only (PC is a different story, covered in our PC release breakdown)
  • Standard Edition: $79.99
  • Ultimate Edition: $99.99, digital only
  • Pre-order bonus: the Vintage Vice City Pack, free with any edition
  • Preload: starts November 12 for anyone with a digital copy or redeemed code

Not sure which edition to get? We compared every Ultimate exclusive in our Standard vs Ultimate breakdown. Short version: story-focused players are fine with Standard, car people should think hard about Ultimate.

What’s in the Vintage Vice City Pack

The pre-order bonus is a nostalgia play aimed directly at everyone who played the original Vice City in 2002, right down to the key art staging Jason and Lucia outside the Ocean View Hotel, Tommy Vercetti’s old home base.

Here’s the full contents:

‘55 Vapid Stanier and Shore Court Garage. A chrome-heavy two-tone classic sedan built for slow cruises down Shore Drive, plus a personal garage to keep it in, a short walk from Ocean Beach. Like other personal garages in Leonida, Shore Court includes a weapon locker for changing your loadout and a drop point for offloading stolen goods to a local fence.

Retro outfits and hairstyles for both leads. Jason gets a pastel linen suit with a period-correct cut and haircut. Lucia gets a red sequin mini dress with curls. Pure 1986 energy.

The “Channel the Original Kingpin” weapon pattern. A tropical palm print you can apply to most guns, an unmistakable homage to Tommy Vercetti’s famous button-up shirt. A floral assault rifle should not go this hard, and yet.

The pack is included with every digital purchase made before November 20, 2026, and with physical pre-orders while supplies last. You do not need the Ultimate Edition to get it.

How to pre-order, step by step

  1. Pick your platform. PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Worth knowing: Sony has been marketing GTA 6 aggressively, and PlayStation is positioning itself as the lead platform this generation.
  2. Pick digital or physical. Digital means instant preload access on November 12 and one free month of GTA+ when buying through the PlayStation or Microsoft stores. Physical means a box on your shelf, but read the next section before choosing it.
  3. Buy from official sources only. PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Store, or established retailers like Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, and Target. Nothing else.
  4. Clear your storage now, not in November. The install is expected to be enormous. Our preload and file size guide has the full storage math.

Digital vs physical: the catch

This is the part most pre-order guides bury. The physical edition of GTA 6 does not contain a disc. The box holds a one-time download code, which means you still need to download the entire game, and once the code is redeemed it’s tied to that account. Reselling or lending your copy later is effectively dead.

There’s also a regional wrinkle: PlayStation codes are region-locked, so a boxed copy bought abroad may not activate on your home account. Rockstar has indicated Xbox codes don’t carry the same restriction.

Physical boxes ship and hit store shelves starting November 12, which conveniently lines up with preload day. The whole saga of why there’s no disc, and why it’s become a genuine political controversy, is in our code-in-a-box explainer.

Scams to avoid

The biggest launch ever attracts the most scammers ever. Three rules will keep you safe:

Nobody sells early access. Both editions unlock at the same time on November 19. Any listing promising you’ll play early is fraudulent.

No PC pre-orders exist. GTA 6 has not been announced for PC. Any site taking PC pre-order money right now is taking your money for nothing.

Discounted key sites are a gamble. Deeply discounted codes for a game this new are frequently region-locked, stolen, or fake. The $10 you save is not worth the account risk.

What happens between now and launch

Rockstar’s marketing engine is just getting started. Trailer 3 has not dropped yet as of this writing, and the community expects it any week now, with a dedicated gameplay showcase likely later in the year. Preload begins November 12, and store listings point to a midnight local unlock on the 19th. We track every beat as it happens.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still get the Vintage Vice City Pack if I buy at launch? Yes, if you buy digitally before November 20, 2026. The pack is included with all digital purchases made by that date, not just pre-orders. Physical copies include it while stocks last.

Is there a physical Ultimate Edition? No. The boxed release is Standard Edition only. Ultimate and the Standard-to-Ultimate upgrade are digital.

Do I get anything extra for pre-ordering digitally? One month of GTA+ comes with digital purchases through the PlayStation and Microsoft storefronts, plus preload access from November 12.

What time do pre-orders unlock the game on launch day? Store listings indicate midnight local time on November 19, based on your account region. Rockstar hasn’t published an official worldwide unlock map yet, and we’ll update the moment it does.

Can I cancel a pre-order? Digital storefront pre-orders can generally be refunded before release under standard PlayStation and Xbox policies. Retailer policies vary, so check before you commit.
